Künstlerhaus-Archiv

The Künstlerhaus Vereinigung exists since 1861, the building in the heart of Vienna since 1868. Today, the association sees itself as a platform for contemporary art within the framework of artistic initiatives as well as regional and international co-operations. At its core is a lively network of members and a focus on current socio-political issues.

At the same time, the Künstlerhaus Vereinigung, which for decades after its foundation was the representative of all artists in Vienna, is aware of its history and its associated historical responsibility. This awareness manifests itself in the historical archive of the Künstlerhaus. The Künstlerhaus archive preserves the history of the Künstlerhaus and thus also a part of the art and cultural history of Vienna and Austria.

Since preservation should not mean mere safekeeping, the archive sees itself as an institution that wants to make its own holdings and the history inherent in them available to the widest possible public.
