Vorarlberg State Library

The Vorarlberg State Library is an academic library that promotes education, science and culture in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

It acts as a public centre of information, documentation and communication that is accessible to everyone. Another task is to serve as a universal scientific library at university level to the region’s educational institutions.

Its regional collections include all published materials on the history and current affairs of Vorarlberg, including photographs, maps, and postcards as well as recordings of radio and television broadcasts.

In order to preserve the digital cultural heritage in the long term and make it visible to the public, the library has been operating the digital repository "volare" since 2015 using the PHAIDRA system. After getting over technical, legal and content-related challenges it has developed into Vorarlberg's major image database with around 20 collections and over 300,000 photos available via vorarlberg.at/volare.
