From Abies to Angelica
Specimens from the botanical collection of inatura - Erlebnis Naturschau Dornbirn
Currently, the inatura – Erlebnis Naturschau Dornbirn is represented in the Kulturpool with selected objects from its botanical collection. This collection includes more than 40,000 herbarium specimens of plants from Vorarlberg.
Botanical diversity documented digitally
The objects in the herbaria come from various collectors, mainly from the period between 1800 and the present day. Of particular importance is the extensive documentary material of Johann Schwimmer, Josef Blumrich, Thomas A. Bruhin, Anton Ender, Faustin Ens, Franz Gradl, Stanislaus Kaiser, Ferdinand Netzer and others. The collection is recorded in the BioOffice distribution database.
As part of the "Kulturerbe digital" funding project, around 2000 herbarium specimens from the botanical collection from the genus Abies to the genus Angelica have been digitally recorded in the last two years.
Nature in transition
The natural history collections of inatura are collections of documents recording the biological and geological diversity of the state of Vorarlberg and its neighbouring areas. Due to the long-term collecting activity and the increase in documentary material from research projects, the collections allow a view of the change in nature in these areas up to the present day. The exact total number of objects in the collections can only be estimated and is likely to be around 370,000 objects.
Both the collection holdings and observation data of plants, fungi and animals are managed in a distribution database.
In the future, objects from other collections of the inatura Erlebnis Naturschau Dornbirn will also be made available via the Kulturpool.
