Kulturpool is a non-profit, educational, artistic, and scientific search portal and a service centre for the transfer of knowledge and skills for the digitally available cultural heritage of Austrian collections.

Partner institutions: Private and public museums, archives, collections, libraries, as well as humanities, cultural, and natural sciences databases.

Europeana: Kulturpool is the official national aggregator for Europeana, the European platform for digital cultural heritage.

Go-live of the portal: 14 March 2024

Institutions:

  • by November 2025, more than 100 institutions are visible in Kulturpool
  • by the end of 2026, over 150 institutions

Digital objects:

  • by November 2025, over 2 million digitised objects available
  • by the end of 2026, around 3 million objects (projection)
  • over 10 million objects expected by 2028

Service centre: Offers knowledge transfer via a knowledge database, regular webinars and online cafes for partner institutions, as well as a knowledge forum and other events & workshops.

Implementation: The search portal is part of the "Kulturerbe digital" strategy of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS)/(BMWKMS since April 2025) and is being realised at the Natural History Museum Vienna (NHM).
