Vienna

Founded in 1993 by the City of Vienna and the federal government of Austria, the Architekturzentrum Wien (Az W) is the Austrian Museum of Architecture. Centrally located in the MuseumsQuartier, the Az W shows, discusses and researches into ways architecture and urban development impact on our daily lives. A broad programme that includes international thematic exhibitions, a permanent exhibition and a wide range of educational formats provides a bridge between experts and everyday life.

What can architecture do? This is a question that concerns all of us. The Az W takes a consistent socio-political approach to its collection work, too, and regards itself as a museum for the future where knowledge is not only gathered but also shared.

The Az W provides a storehouse of knowledge on building culture, art and cultural history as well as social, economic and technological history with the world's most comprehensive collection on Austrian architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries — encompassing over 100 living legacies and posthumously bequeathed estates, unique archives of photographs, extensive project collections and the Friedrich Achleitner Archiv.
