The Salzburg Literature Archive is a joint research center of the University, the State, and the City of Salzburg, dedicated to collecting and cataloging the papers of authors with ties to Salzburg.
Its goal is to make these materials accessible to both academic research and the general public. The holdings include manuscripts, typescripts, letters, photos, libraries, as well as audio and visual media, documenting the literary life of the region. A particularly notable collection is the Stefan Zweig papers, which contain the most important collection of his literary notebooks, all of his surviving diaries, additional personal documents, and significant correspondence.
In addition to preserving and cataloging its holdings, the archive promotes literary engagement through exhibitions, academic conferences, workshops, and other events.
