The Austrian Society for Medieval and Modern Archaeology was founded in 1985 to promote and disseminate research in the field of medieval and modern archaeology in Austria and beyond. For this purpose, international conferences are organized and the journal “Beiträge zur Mittelalter- und Neuzeitarchäologie in Österreich” is published, thus creating a forum for interdisciplinary scientific exchange between scientists and interested laypeople. In addition, the association preserves, maintains and expands the Archive for Medieval Archaeology and the Deserted Villages Archive.
