Austrian Film Museum
Vienna
The Austrian Film Museum is Austria's internationally most renowned curatorial and scientific institution dedicated to the collection, preservation, research, and communication of the medium of film.
The “Invisible Cinema” shows curated film programs accompanied by lectures, introductory texts, and digital materials. Educational programs for schools and teachers, as well as university courses, deepen the understanding of film as a cultural and historical medium.
A central concern is the continuous expansion, preservation, and development of the museum's own film collection, which includes significant works from film history from 1893 to the present. This is supplemented by extensive film-related collections containing contextual materials such as posters, photos, and documents. The Film Museum also operates Austria's most important specialized library on film, which serves as a substantive resource for research and teaching. It regularly participates in international research projects and publishes books and DVDs.
