Augarten Porcelain Museum
Vienna
The AUGARTEN PORCELAIN MUSEUM explores the surprisingly diverse spectrum of the cultural and artistic history of Viennese porcelain. Innovative personalities as well as visionary aspirations, everyday habits and luxurious fashions from various eras since 1718 come to light in the exhibitions. The Augarten Porcelain Museum was opened in 2011 and considers itself an archive of knowledge on the cultural heritage of Viennese porcelain. It is a privilege to visit the workshops of the porcelain manufactory right next door. In the once imperial Augarten, they are guardians of traditional technologies and secret recipes.
The collection of historical porcelain from the eighteenth to the twentieth century is constantly expanding with precious objects. Samples from the manufactory collection form the foundation of the holdings, supplemented by designs of realised or archived shapes and decorations. The extensive photo archive of the twentieth century also provides rare insights into the processes of the manufactory's work.
