Stickerei – Museum. Archiv. Kommunikation (S‑MAK)

Vorarlberg

The S-MAK is located in Lustenau – a town in Vorarlberg characterised by a long tradition of embroidery production. The three facets of its name – Museum (museum), Archiv (archive), Kommunikation (communication) – come together in a polyphonic, innovative and open way in a former production hall of an embroidery company. Since 2024, this hall has been the place to critically analyse and present the history of Vorarlberg embroidery. In addition to this new presentation of embroidery, the S-MAK is also dedicated to its present and future.

The aim is to build up a collection that uses digital and analogue collection objects and media to present, process and communicate the most diverse aspects of embroidery.
