The fascinating world of cameras

The WestLicht exhibition of cameras

WestLicht owns a unique collection of historically and technically important cameras.

Milestones in photography

The permanent camera exhibition, consisting of private loans and the WestLicht collection, includes around 360 objects from all eras. It presents the milestones of camera technology in chronological order, starting with the prehistory of photography – drawing and projection devices – to the beginnings of digital photography.

The most historically valuable exhibit of the Camera Museum is the world's first commercially produced camera – the Susse Frères Daguerréotype. In the digital extension of the WestLicht Camera Museum, 100 of the most important developments in the history of photography can be discovered in high-quality 3D views.
