Museum Innviertler Volkskundehaus, Ried/Innkreis

Upper Austria

The Innviertler Volkskundehaus Museum in Ried im Innkreis is a regional cultural history museum whose origins date back to civic engagement at the beginning of the 20th century. A central focus is the Schwanthaler dynasty of artists, whose works are presented alongside numerous examples of the folk culture of the Innviertel region.

The collections include rural and bourgeois everyday culture, traditional costumes, craftsmanship, and religious folk art such as reverse glass paintings, nativity scenes, and devotional objects. The museum’s offerings are complemented by an exhibition on the town’s history, tracing the development of Ried, as well as the municipal gallery featuring art from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Changing special exhibitions and educational programs expand the permanent display and make the museum a vibrant center of regional cultural history.
