The Upper Austrian Museums Association serves as a service centre and umbrella organisation for around 270 museums and collections in Upper Austria. Many of its member museums are run with a high level of voluntary commitment. The association’s office supports them in all areas of museum work and provides professional advice on exhibition design, mediation and education, collection management, conservation, and professional development. Another key focus is public relations as well as the organisation of region-wide museum events and networking meetings.

The collections of the member museums cover a wide range of topics, from cultural and everyday history to agriculture and forestry, natural history, archaeology, and art. For collection documentation, museums have access to the web-based inventory system “Museumskollektor.” Since 2026, the association has been participating in Kulturpool, the central online search portal for Austria’s cultural heritage. The initiative began with the Innviertler Volkskundehaus Museum and the Färbermuseum Gutau, with additional museums to follow.
